I was on Myspace the other day and I am not ashamed to say that I get totally sucked into the bullshit. It starts out innocent enough…you know, I check out how many plays my songs got and how many new “friend” requests I have. Before I know it, 17 minutes have passed and I’m on Snobby Bitch’s page. What? How did that happen? I’ll click on someone if they really catch my eye, mostly consisting of rock guys with funky hair and girls with moxie and ambition. For the most part, I’m pretty disciplined, and can control my urge to spend 3 hours wandering aimlessly, although I do have my moments of weakness. There are 3 or 4 people (who shall remain nameless) that I check out almost every time I go to my page. I don’t learn anything; I’m just compelled to check them out! It’s basically short-term eye candy and voyeurism.
Myspace: a place for friends? NO, a place where we can all pretend to be more than we are, stroke our egos, create hype so others follow suit, and be totally self indulgent! It’s a fantasy land where our OCD and ADD is celebrated and encouraged, not unlike the way we encourage addiction and debauchery for rockstars (and we all know the outcome of many of them.) Finally we have a forum where we can talk about our accomplishments (or lack thereof) and flaunt whatever body part we think is really “hot!” (And I say that with the utmost Paris Hilton-esque stupidity.)
It’s a dream come true for those who have absolutely nothing substantial to offer. They can promote whatever they lack, or focus on the one good thing they do have – no matter how trivial or shallow it may be. They can talk about themselves every day and actually have a captive audience! It’s a place where every downfall is a desired quality. It’s a great time to be alive! A great time indeed! A time where the expectations are so low that gold diggers, freeloaders, procrastinators, posers, and of course my favorite – directionless idealists with strong senses of entitlement – can thrive. I know this seems a bit cynical, but it’s the truth, or at least my interpretation of it. Anyway, I really should be going, I have a ton of stuff to do: I have 927 friend requests to approve, 400 comments to write and 4 “friends” to stalk…see you on Myspace! Bye! |
Nice Sherrie. I hear you… Send my regards to Mark. Maybe you could do that via myspace? Haha!
Wondering why it’s not Arrogant Asshole instead.
Happy new year from a girl with enough moxie to be herself,
S B
I don’t think you’re cynical. I think you’re self-important and self-righteous. The only truth you’re blogging about is the truth as you see it. Do you really think you’re disciplined merely because you choose not to surf the internet for long hours on end? Do you really think that’s what discipline is? I’ll give you a TRUE example of what discipline is. Discipline is putting up with long hours of study and unmotivated teachers. I didn’t like school but I had the discipline to put up with it’s tedium. Putting up with all that while knowing that it wasn’t practical or useful. Now, that’s discipline. Don’t hate me because my having a degree makes you feel less than me. Thou protests too much about formal education. Could it be because, in some way, you’re seeking to overcompensate for what you’re lacking?
Hugs and kisses,

Hi snobby bitch! How did you find me? Funny!
I am not sure what you are defending and disputing. Education? Your discipline? My discipline? School? Your MySpace page? You, personally? This blog is about MYSPACE. I reference YOUR PAGE in passing because it has a humorous, quintessential MySpace title: “Snobby Bitch.” I guess you are responding to “my story” since the “I’m Gonna get my self connected” blog has nothing to do with education and school. I hope my reply clears things up for you!
1. Do you realize all of your comments above actually support my view on education? You said school is impractical and non-useful and that teachers are unmotivated. This means you agree with me, so what’s the problem?
2. I am not sure why you are questioning my discipline toward school. I think you are confused… The fact that I bitch about school as an adult has no reflection on my level of discipline while I was attending and graduated school. I find it dichotomous that you revel in self-discipline and yet somehow associate my OPINION toward school and education (that you agree with) as a lack of discipline. Quite a leap in logic. Doesn’t the fact that I hated school, yet graduated and am following my passion encompass self-discipline?
3. Bottom line…. posting 2 defensive comments is extremely reactive and hasty. Which is dichotomous to what you are defending about yourself. By the way, make sure you are actually being attacked before you defend yourself. Here is my advice, and I deliver this like a highly motivated teacher would, with the intention to help and inspire. If you are going to dispute someone’s views you should first know EXACTLY what you are disputing and organize your thoughts before you deliver them. Have a clear opinion then support it with examples. For example: “Sherrie is self-important, self-righteous and jealous because…her opinion about school is wrong because….” Get it? Otherwise you may not be taken seriously and with a name like Snobby Bitch you need all the help you can get in that category
Be more mindful…”respond DON’T react.”
If you continue to approach things your way you will forever be contradicting the fact that you really do have moxie and are a learned person.
Thanks for posting!
Sherrie

Snobby Bitch,
I like the “thou protests too much quote”. I haven’t used that one in a long time although it’s in my lexicon. I’m now officially waiting for the opportunity to use it when I’m next feeling especially pedantic.
There is however, a flaw in your argument that needs the light of reason shone on it and that’s the point you make about Sherrie blogging about the truth as she sees it. Truth is relative and we all have our own versions of this. This should be abundantly clear to you as you walk the halls of academe and hear the subjective swill that escapes the lips of bearded and pony tailed proffs. Sherrie is on the money. I didn’t see her blog as an attack of anything you hold dear either. It was commentary about myspace and nothing more. Myspace is ridiculous after all. I’m not sure you finished her entire blog before you responded. In the tag line Sherrie wrote, she pretty much eloquently and humorously admits that she’s as addicted to myspace like everyone else and didn’t put herself above anyone.
As cool as your reference to excessive protestation was, it appears to have been a non sequitur.
Wow! Johnny, you are fucking whip smart! Just curious..do you have a degree and do/did you like high school?
My cup runneth over. Thank you for the kind words truthaholic. Actually, I’m a high school drop out. The most prestigious lamb skin document that adorns my wall is a General Equivalency Diploma. I hated the educational process and since my IQ was higher than that of all of my teachers, I thought it better to conduct my own affairs as it pertains to higher education. I’ll throw down the gauntlet with anyone with a post graduate degree on the following subjects; History, Science, Political Science, Communications, Social Sciences and Business. I have used the 25 years since being in High School educating myself. I’m far from what I personally consider smart though. I feel as though I’ve stood on the shoulders of giants but have more often than not, fallen off.
In defense of Snobby Bitch, it would appear that there is a degree of bifurcation in her logic. This is alarming and all kidding aside is a symptom of some pretty serious emotional trauma. It makes me sad for her.
alright…I think “bifurcation” is when someone is talking about something totally off the subject even though the subject that is actually being discussed by the rest of the people is very clear. I usually refer to that as crazy and self-absorbed…but ok, bifurcation will do…..it either means that or it means her logic is undergoing surgery….lol…doubtful
The only surgery going on here is Snobby Bitch’s breast augmentation. I mean, c’mon. Who are we foolin’?
I am not going to lie. I hated elementary school. I liked high school. When I got to high school, I lied about almost everything. I went to a school where no body knew me, and I created stories to be a bad ass. In my first year I was a jock. Played football and had a ton of ‘friends’. My second year didn’t go as well. I started working, did not play football, and lost some of those ‘friends’ when I was no longer on the team.
Overall, high school was fun. I wish I could have done some things differently. I never got over a few things from high school. I always wanted to play football. I have had a major trauma with a relationship with my first love that almost caused me to curl up into my shell and not come out again. I had way too much crap to deal with at that age.
Anyway, moving on, I went to college, persevered and got my degree which took way too long. It took me longer then most, because I spent three years undecided in Liberal Arts and Sciences, then I changed to Business and was supposed to finish in three more years. It took three and a half years because I failed one of my last classes and had to take another class in place of it. I got my degree, and I feel it wasn’t worth all of the time I put into it.
I will be the first to tell you, it has gotten me into some places just having it, but now that it has been over 8 years since I graduated I feel it is useless. I did nothing relating to my major and in fact I am currently looking for yet another career. If I had to do it again, I would go to a community college and take up a trade. I think I would have taken up being an electrician, or just taking programming classes, or some kind of certification and not a 4 year degree. It is sometimes faster, quicker and gets you in a direction to make money and get experience quicker in the field that you were trained.
Currently, I have four business ideas, two pipe dreams, and have a vague idea what I might do next.
I have one person I know that got a G.E.D. when he was in his junior year of high school, so he could take a year off and focus on what he wanted to do. He played guitar, took lessons and actually got pretty good. He was in guitar magazine in 1990. I do not think he ever progressed with anything, and even today, he has a ton of endorsements. He might know every professional musician in the business. He does session work, and has some heavy hitters on his cds, and he also makes a living by giving lessons. I do not think he has done much with his talent. I would take lessons from him in a heartbeat, but if I knew what he knew, I would have been somebody’s guitarist or in a major band or something. I think he also has to over come the labeling of being a ‘local’. He is from the Chicago area.
Anyway, I do not think I was disciplined, as much as I persevered and had patience. Again I could have probably gotten the same degree in 3 years if I was more focused. I also could have been more focused in a community college or trade program. Finally I probably do spend too much time on myspace and other places.
Sorry I disagree. Myspace has worked out real good for me. Yes It is mostly musicians instead of fans. But I do find lots of new fans who come to my shows and I have gotten gigs from Myspace.
I’ve got nothing but love for Myspace. Remember, just becasue something is wonderful and beneficial doesn’t mean it is incapable of being ridiculous.
You have points my friend, you have points.
As a rock and roller from the pre-pc days, it is extremely beneficial to have a FREE service where we artists/bands can FLAUNT and PROMOTE our directionless, idalistic art for the world to see.
Secondly, it generates revenue/fans that we would have never seen pounding the pavement regionally.
To hell with paying for a website. Free is all good to me, even in this fantasyland of Myspace.

Hey Spiv
Yeah, it’s not like I am going to shut down my My space account any time soon.
rock on!
if you read the papaer the other day the government is cracking down on my space with rules, filters,id age methods etc.now no one can be who they want to pretend to be.all because some older guys wanna bang slutty high school girls.these teen girls had sex with lots of guys already.but the government uses the excuse they have to protect them and crack down on freedom and the right to meet any age girl a guy wants to meet on my space.
Fred, you’re right the government is making rules for MySpace for all the wrong reasons. I know of a prostitute in the Southwest suburbs of Chicago, ****ofchicago who runs a tanning salon called A ***** ** *** and has a page on MySpace promoting both. How would you like to go in for a tan and hear someone screwing in the next room?
Hi Jose,
You are correct. Most people wouldn’t like to go for a tan at a spa and then hear people in the next room “screwing.” Since this is pretty objectionable I took the liberty and edited your post on my page and put asterisks (*) in place of the ladies name and the name of her tanning spa. We wouldn’t want people to think YOU were supporting this by accidentally promoting it.
You’re 100% correct. I would not want anyone to think I was promoting such activity. Quite the opposite, my hope was that the LE would pick up on it and bust her. Maybe I should make it very easy for the police. ************* real name is ********** and she lives in Burbank, IL. Her phony tan business is called *************and is in ******** IL.
If you’re a concerned citizen of this area then you should contact the police about this.
Hey Jose,
I am not sure if you realize what type of site this is. You are either misinformed or confused. This is not a prostitution task force busting site. You are wasting your time providing this info on this site. WHY would you think that police officials would be coming to this site? I am unsure as to WHY you would take such an indirect approach to catching this chick. It really seems like you are on the side of illegal prostitution rather than on the side of the law. Again, this site is not linked to any police officials. Since you are SO concerned about this, how about you stop using my site as some prostitution sting operation and STOP relying on my readers or anyone else for that matter, to do what is apparently very important to you. I think you should provide this info directly to police officials if your true intention is to stop crime. All that you are providing others by commenting on my site is that you are a transparent pimp. Sorry dude…just calling it like I see it
what is Snobby Bitch’s myspace link? You can’t be talking about THE snobby bitch on Myspace? Shes a REALLY cool girl…
Who said anything about her NOT being cool? I am just curious myself WHAT she was disputing in her comment to me and WHERE the anger toward me was coming from. she is scattered and all over the map.
I still can’t find the link to the SB I was talking about. I was talking about curvy pin up type girl with big bright blue eyes and black hair. Like if Carmen Electra, Marilyn Monroe and Angelina Jolie had a kid somehow….lol
“It’s a dream come true for those who have absolutely nothing substantial to offer. They can promote whatever they lack, or focus on the one good thing they do have – no matter how trivial or shallow it may be. They can talk about themselves every day and actually have a captive audience! …Anyway, I really should be going, I have a ton of stuff to do: I have 927 friend requests to approve, 400 comments to write and 4 “friends” to stalk…see you on Myspace! Bye!”
Don’t forget: You have a ‘blog to write. Which could be argued as being the ultimate in masturbatory self-indulgence on the internet….
I’m not sayin’; I’m just sayin’.
I see you quoted my rant about myspace users, I was referring to the ones that are the opposite of me, like the girl who is married to a guy 25 years older than her and calls her page “shops non-stop.” Ugh, does she know that we all consider her a glorified hooker? My rant was referring to the myspace users that are devoid of critical thinking and are riding the coat tails of others. I will continue to undermine those who undermine themselves.
As far as self-indulgent blog sites…I think Truthaholic is quite different from typical blog sites. Most of the blogs I’ve read are awful and self -indulgent, I’ll agree with you there. I immediately by-pass that bullshit because I talk about universal topics and ask questions. Most blog sites are people talking about the minutia of their day…. their new dishwasher, or their favorite Starbucks drink. It’s so fucking self-indulgent and boring!
Just a little something to ponder…. where does self-indulgence begin and end? Anyone who does anything creative is self-indulgent to some degree. All actors, musicians, writers and inventors who express themselves and find creative cool outlets are self-indulgent. You obviously were inspired enough to write something creative on this site so are you self-indulgent too? Are people who have children to let their legacy live on self indulgent? Are people who have a big wedding self-indulgent?
Listen, as long as ones creative outlet is pure, sincere, original, and evocative everyone should be cool about it and encourage it, life can suck out our creativity and that sucks….finding something that inspires you is the goal….
I see I have an impersonator. Someone on my friends list just sent me this link. Don’t know who was arguing with you before by the name “snobby bitch” but that was NOT me. Anyway, I am all about free speech and don’t see anything wrong with what you said nor do I take anything you said personally. Infact, I think you were dead on in this. Keep blogging. It refreshing to see someone with an opinion of their own these days…
I too find Myspace quite additcting. I log on to see one person and am intrigued by a “friends” picture posted in their site. Soon I am on another persons site and another and another etc, etc, etc. After killing most of my evening (sorry I am not as strong as some of you that can just walk away) I then log off and go to bed. It really is a place where people turn to for self promotion and cheap advertisement of their band, business or themselves. I don’t know if that was it’s intent but that is what it is. It’s just not for inspiring kids any more.
Yeah, I have very weak moments on MySpace for sure! What’s your myspace page? I’ll friend ya!
Brilliant post. You have brought in a recent devotee. Please keep up the nice work and I look forward to more of your amusing updates.
